Maintaining data quality is now easier than ever with HubSpot’s new automatic property formatting. Instead of relying on users or admins to catch and correct validation errors, HubSpot can now clean and standardize data as it's entered–saving time and minimizing mistakes. Whether you're manually editing a property or importing data, the CRM will automatically format entries to ensure consistency and accuracy from the start.
How It Works
- Go to: Objects > Settings > Properties > Edit Property > Rules
- In the 'allowed characters' section, if you select 'allow numbers only' or 'don't allow special characters,’ you will be able to toggle on 'automatically remove disallowed characters.'
- With this on, data will be automatically formatted to remove any values that aren't numbers or remove any special characters, depending on the rule you select.
- When the property is manually edited in the CRM, formatting will be automatically applied before the value is saved.
Examples of how this works:
- A user attempting to type a special character in First Name will not see that value in the input because the ‘don’t allow special characters’ rule will automatically remove the special character as it is being typed.
- When importing, the property value will also be formatted automatically before the data is brought into the CRM.
- If a property value for Postal Code is imported as ‘02114ABC’ it will be saved upon successful import as ‘02114.'
Note: Currently, this auto-formatting does NOT apply to data entered through Mobile, Forms or Workflows.
