A New Workflow Creation Experience in HubSpot

A New Workflow Creation Experience in HubSpot
2:48

Creating workflows in HubSpot just got a whole lot easier and more intuitive. When you click “Create workflow," you’re taken directly into the workflow builder–no need to choose an object type upfront. You can immediately browse all available workflow triggers, making it simpler to start building the automation that fits your needs.

Why It Matters

Previously, the first step in creating a workflow was selecting an object type (like Contact, Company, Deal, etc.). This could be confusing for users unfamiliar with HubSpot’s object terminology. Even for seasoned users, this step often meant committing to an object type without knowing whether the trigger you needed was available–a frustrating process that could lead to unnecessary rework or missed opportunities.

This new experience removes that friction.

Now, you can explore all workflow triggers first, helping you:
•    Discover triggers you might not have known existed
•    Understand what’s possible before committing to an object
•    Quickly pivot between trigger options
•    Start building without the pressure of making the “right” choice immediately

How It Works

To get started:
1. Go to Workflows.
2. Click “Create workflow” and select “From scratch.”
3. Search or browse all available triggers right in the builder.
4. When you select a trigger:
•    If it’s tied to a specific object, HubSpot will set that object type for you automatically.
•    If it applies to multiple objects, you’ll be prompted to choose the appropriate type.
5. You can then configure:
•    Trigger refinement criteria
•    Re-enrollment and un-enrollment settings
6. Save your trigger and begin adding actions to your workflow.

Need more time to decide? You can skip trigger setup for now by clicking “Skip and choose type of record…” Just note that an object type must be set before adding workflow actions.

Pro tip: If you skip the trigger setup entirely, the workflow will only work with manual enrollments, but you can always add an automated trigger later.

Who Gets It?

This update is currently available in beta for the following subscriptions:
•    Marketing Hub Pro & Enterprise
•    Sales Hub Pro & Enterprise
•    Service Hub Pro & Enterprise
•    Operations Hub Pro & Enterprise

Once you're in the beta, you’ll see a green “beta” bubble in the bottom left corner of the workflow builder. Click it to switch between the new and old experience or to leave feedback.

Final Thoughts

This update simplifies the first step of building a workflow–reducing friction, helping you make better decisions faster and enabling more discovery in the process. Whether you’re just getting started or are a seasoned pro, this new creation flow is designed to make automation more approachable and more powerful than ever.
