We’re always looking for HubSpot tools that can make your life easier. The platform offers numerous tools that claim to save you time, but with the vast number of product updates and tools released every week, it can be challenging to determine which are worth your time. In this blog, we’re diving into one of HubSpot’s more intriguing new tools, a built-in video editor for social posts. We’ll give you a full breakdown of how it works.

What Is It?

HubSpot’s new built-in video editor aims to improve your social post creation workflow by eliminating an extra step outside of the social composer. You can now fully edit videos without using separate software.

How to Use HubSpot’s New Built-in Video Editor

This tool is simple to utilize. To start:

1. Go to the Social app and click Create new post to open the social composer.

2. Add a video to your social post.

3. After the video is added, a pencil icon will appear next to it in the composer.
4. Click the pencil icon to open the built-in video editor, where you can make quick edits like adding branding, captions, text or image overlays, or cropping the video to a different aspect ratio.
5. Click Export to social to return to the social composer with your edited video. Your changes are applied to a cloned version of the original video, so the original file remains unchanged.

Is It Worth Your Time?

The editor has strengths and weaknesses, depending on the type of user. If you’re already editing videos on other software, you might find this to be a bit lacking. It does what you need it to in a pinch, but you’re not going to get the full functionality you’re used to from other platforms. It’s nice that you can add your own branding, custom captions, text and image overlays, crop videos and adjust the aspect ratio as needed. Other platforms certainly do all this better and much more. For advanced editing and long-form video, we recommend exploring alternative software.

If you’ve never edited a video before, or really need something simple and easy to use in a pinch, then this might be awesome for you. It’s straightforward and you won’t get lost trying to figure anything out as it’s all clearly labeled. It offers just enough functionality to get the job done and could solve headaches from trying to figure out complex or overinflated editing software. Another area where this may be useful is in editing short-form videos or fixing small mistakes that simply require quick trims, added captions or formatting in the correct aspect ratio.
