Admins can now manage merge permissions separately from edit permissions for each object type: Contacts, Companies, Deals, Tickets and Custom Objects. You can now control who can merge records without affecting their ability to edit them.
Note: Updates to Custom Objects and to Create and Merge permissions won't yet appear on the permissions history page. HubSpot is actively working on adding this functionality.
Previously, any user with edit access to an object could also merge records of that type. This created data hygiene concerns for many customers. While users need edit access to do their jobs, allowing automatic merge permissions increased the risk of accidental or inappropriate data consolidation. The new permissions give you more precise control.
Admins can go to Users & Teams and adjust merge permissions independently for each object type. Options include full access, team-only, owned-only or no merge access.
By default, a user's merge permissions will initially match their existing edit permissions for each object type.
