Automatic Access Preservation for Reconnected Social Accounts

Written by Antidote 71 | Aug 4, 2026, 4:22:28 PM

Keeping social media accounts active requires regular re-authorization, but keeping your permissions secure shouldn't require manual re-configuration. HubSpot has updated its reconnection workflow so that your carefully set account permissions stay intact even after a token expires.

The Update

When you reconnect a social media account after its OAuth authorization token expires, HubSpot now automatically restores your existing Account Access settings. Previously, re-authenticating an expired connection would reset access permissions to the default "Everyone," exposing sensitive accounts to unintended team members. Now, your configured access levels are preserved seamlessly.

The Impact

  • Prevents Accidental Access: Restricting access to specific teams or agency contractors now survives the standard 90-day token expiration cycle without leaking permissions to the whole company.
  • Saves Administrative Time: Super Admins no longer need to audit and re-adjust access settings across every social channel following a quick account re-authorization.

  • Protects Multi-Brand Portals: Keeps regional or division-specific social accounts strictly partitioned so team members can't accidentally publish to the wrong channel.

The Setup

This setting update works silently in the background:

  1. Navigate to Social Settings: Go to Settings>Marketing>Social in your HubSpot portal.

  2. Locate Expired Account: Look for any connected account showing an expired token warning.

  3. Click Reconnect: Follow the standard OAuth prompt to log into the social network and authorize the connection.

  4. Automatic Restoration: Once redirected back to HubSpot, your previous Account Access rules will be re-applied automatically without requiring any manual toggling.

Note: Brand-new social channels being connected for the very first time will still default to "Everyone," which you can then customize as needed.

The Bottom Line

Routine account maintenance should never break your permission strategy. By preserving Account Access settings through reconnections, HubSpot ensures that your social channels remain secure, structured and restricted to the right people at all times.
