Screen Capture Button in the Chat Widget

Written by Antidote 71 | Apr 24, 2026 8:03:40 PM

Explaining a technical issue or a visual bug over chat can be a headache for customers. HubSpot’s new Screen Capture Button simplifies this by letting visitors snap a picture of exactly what they’re seeing without ever leaving the chat window.

What This Update Does

HubSpot has added a dedicated Screen Capture icon directly into the chat widget. When clicked, visitors on desktop or tablet can instantly take a screenshot of their current screen and attach it to the conversation. This eliminates the need for external snipping tools or the "save-as-and-upload" dance.

Why It Matters

"A picture is worth a thousand words" is especially true in customer support.

  • Reduces Friction: Not every user knows the keyboard shortcuts for screenshots or how to locate the file once it's saved.

  • Faster Resolutions: Agents can see the exact error message or UI issue immediately, reducing the back-and-forth "can you describe what you see?" phase.

  • Better Accessibility: It provides a native, easy-to-find tool for users who aren't tech-savvy, making the support experience feel more intuitive and modern.

How to Customize It

This feature is managed within your Help Desk or Inbox settings. To enable it for your visitors:

  1. Navigate to Chatflows: Go to your HubSpot portal and head to Chatflows.

  2. Access Settings: Hover over a specific chatflow, click More and select Inbox or Help Desk settings.

  3. Find Web Chat: Under the settings menu, navigate to the Web Chat section.

  4. Toggle the Switch: Turn on the Screen Capture Button setting.

  5. User Experience: Once active, a new icon will appear in the chat widget for desktop and tablet users. When clicked, the browser will ask the user for permission to capture the screen before attaching it to the message.

Who Gets Access

This is a universal update! It is available to all HubSpot hubs and tiers.

Why We Like This Update

It’s a small change that yields a massive improvement in customer satisfaction (CSAT). It shifts the burden of "proving the problem" from the customer to the technology. By lowering the barrier for visitors to share visual context, your support team can work more efficiently and close tickets faster.

Final Takeaway

This is a "set it and forget it" feature that provides immediate value. By enabling the Screen Capture Button, you’re making your chat widget a more powerful diagnostic tool and providing a smoother experience for your customers when they need help the most.
